Dear Future ENG 101 students,
This English class will seem confusing at first because of some new words/terms that will be introduced to you for the first time most likely just like me. The overall class isn’t too extreme to the point that you can’t handle the workload or the class itself, but it will be enough to sharpen your writing senses and then get introduced to new aspects of writing that should have been thought to you sooner rather than in college. The professor Justine Matias is a chill professor who doesn’t expect you to be full on writers but she will expect and demand the best work you can offer and not work you rushed to do last minute like some other classes. She was a good professor who made sure the students leave the class learning something about writing, that you can add to all your future pieces you may find yourself writing in college or in your career.
I was never good at writing and never understand the complexes of the different writings in the world, so I have always dreaded this class. This class in particular didn’t change my perspective on writing in general but it did give me new tools to incorporate into my future writings to make them better than before. This class was straightforward on what we are supposed to learn and do, such as the rhetorical elements and the readings we had to read for every week. The readings themselves for this class thought me new information on topics that I thought I was well informed in such as civil rights and the movement during that time.
My overall writing has seen improvement because of this course and I will be thankful for it, but my opinion on English and literature as a whole has not changed. This class is still the class I do the worst on out of all of my classes, and struggle the most with. I hope that you future students do gain something from every class including this one, even if you hate English class like I do, you will still probably learn something useful afterwards if you actually pay attention.
