Stance is an extremely important rhetorical device when opinion and past experiences are involved in your writing. For instance stance meant little to me when writing my rhetorical analysis paper since I was strictly explaining the use and importance of the rhetorical devices being used in the specific moments of the texts I chose to write about. When stance is extremely valuable is when you have to choose a side on a topic, controversy, opinion, preference, or argument.

For my research paper I had to give a small portion of my stance on the research and make clear the stance of the authors from who I chose to quote information from while writing this piece. Stance allows you to make the reader become more influenced to support your thinking on the topic/argument. I had to state my personal opinions in one of my assignment s this year and during workshops with my classmates on their writings.
